Main Work:

① Pioneered super-selective intra-arterial thrombolysis for acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease in China; among the first institutions and individuals to implement the technique. In 1998, performed China’s first carotid artery stenting procedure for ischemic cerebrovascular disease, providing a novel treatment approach. Received the Clinical Technology Innovation Award from Xuanwu Hospital and the First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the Beijing Health Bureau.

② Established innovative diagnostic and treatment paradigms for acute care and prevention of cerebrovascular disease. In 2008, founded China’s first “Endovascular Stroke Unit” at Xuanwu Hospital, integrating angiography, thrombolysis, stenting, bypass surgery, and carotid endarterectomy management. It was recognized as a pilot ward for quality services by the National Health Commission. Also initiated China’s first specialized outpatient clinics for stroke and stroke screening, promoting standardized procedures as a new model for specialized care. These models have been implemented in hospitals nationwide, significantly advancing stroke prevention and treatment.

③ Developed animal and cellular models of cerebral ischemia to explore mechanisms of ischemic brain injury and identify new therapeutic targets. Research has shown that downregulating CD151 modulates VCAM-1 expression and function in endothelial tetraspanin-enriched microdomains, inhibits neutrophil and monocyte infiltration, and alleviates neurological deficits post-ischemia, offering a potential new target for anti-adhesion molecule therapy in cerebral ischemia.

④ Advanced precision prediction and prevention of cerebrovascular disease. Led the establishment of the Northern Beijing Smart Stroke Prevention Network and proposed a foundational digital model for predicting cerebrovascular disease. The intelligent prevention and treatment model developed has been validated and applied in Tsinghua University communities and the northern Beijing region, benefiting millions and promoting precision monitoring and prevention of cerebrovascular disease.
