Research focus: surgical oncology and colon cancer metastasis
Onno Kranenburg is Professor Translational Surgical Tumor Biology at the University Medical Center (UMC) Utrecht and the University of Utrecht. He is also chairman of the Utrecht Platform for Organoid Technology (UPORT). His research focuses on designing and testing new strategies for the prevention and treatment of metastatic colon cancer. Within his research group, the Kranenburg Group, researchers and clinicians work together in a translational context to design and test these new strategies.
Within UPORT, Onno focuses on the development and standardization of procedures to make organoid research more accessible to researchers and doctors. Over the years, UPORT has designed and implemented a stable infrastructure to manage professional tissue acquisition and processing. For this purpose, Onno collaborates with various specialists in both The Netherlands and abroad. His research has been awarded multiple times by organizations such as the Gieskes-Strijbis Fund, ZonMw and KWF Kankerbestrijding.
