September 24, 2025 - The inaugural meeting and first editorial committee work conference for the Gut Chinese Edition were held in a hybrid format at Beijing Tsinghua Chang Gung Hospital. Academician Dong Jiahong, President of the hospital, was appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Gut Chinese Edition, while Professor Lu Qian, Vice President and Executive Dean of the Hepatobiliary Hospital, was appointed Director of the Hepatobiliary-Pancreatic Group within the Translation and Compilation Department.

Gut, first published in 1960, is the official journal of the British Society of Gastroenterology. Issued monthly, it focuses on clinical research of the digestive tract, liver, biliary system, and pancreatic diseases. With a 2023 Impact Factor of 24.5, it ranks 5th among 93 journals in the JCR Gastroenterology & Hepatology category and has consistently maintained a Q1 ranking in both the major medical category and the Gastroenterology & Hepatology subcategory according to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) classification.

In his address, Professor Emad El-Omar, Editor-in-Chief of Gut, expressed his hope for more extensive and in-depth exchanges and collaboration with Chinese experts and scholars. He aims for the Gut Chinese Edition to become a vital bridge connecting the Chinese and international academic communities in the field of digestology.

The Editor-in-Chief's address was delivered jointly by Academician Dong Jiahong, Professor Qin Shukui (Co-Editor-in-Chief of Gut Chinese Edition from Nanjing Tianyinshan Hospital Affiliated to China Pharmaceutical University), and Professor Fang Jingyuan (Co-Editor-in-Chief from Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine), with the session chaired by Professor Lu Qian.

They emphasized that the Gut Chinese Edition is not merely a simple translation of the original version. Instead, it is positioned as a platform for accurately disseminating cutting-edge international knowledge, building an academic ecosystem in the field of digestology, facilitating cross-disciplinary collaboration and growth among experts, and serving as a stage for international engagement. The strategy of "bringing in and going global" was underscored: promptly introducing the latest international research findings to Chinese doctors while simultaneously showcasing Chinese data, solutions, and wisdom to the world, thereby enhancing the voice and influence of Chinese experts internationally.

The Gut Chinese Edition editorial board brings together nearly one hundred top domestic experts in the field of digestology. Professor Lu Qian, on behalf of the Translation and Compilation Department, presented a report on the "Work Plan for Gut Chinese Edition." Professor Chen Yingxuan from Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, delivered the concluding remarks, stressing that Gut Chinese Edition will adhere to its mission of "Introducing International Frontiers, Showcasing Chinese Wisdom" to continuously promote the advancement of diagnosis and treatment levels for digestive system diseases.
