On May 28, 2025, coinciding with the completion and official opening of Phase II of Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, the Department of Stomatology marked a historic milestone with the inauguration of the Stomatology Center , led by world-renowned orthodontics expert Professor Yanheng Zhou after a year of dedicated preparation. This marks an important moment in the ten-year development of the Department of Stomatology, signaling the hospital’s entry into a new stage of high-quality growth in clinical care, education, and research.
Since its establishment in 2014, the Department of Stomatology has adhered to a patient-centered philosophy of care. Under the leadership of its first director, Professor Jun Xu, the department gradually developed a comprehensive system of subspecialty services. In 2024, with the advancement of the hospital’s Phase II expansion, the department entered a period of major opportunity when Professor Yanheng Zhou, a top international orthodontics expert, officially joined and began preparing the launch of the Stomatology Center at Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, affiliated with Tsinghua University.
Professor Yanheng Zhou, former Director of the Department of Orthodontics at Peking University School of Stomatology, served as Chair of the Sixth Committee of Orthodontic Society of Chinese Stomatological Association, the first Chinese Executive Committee Member of the World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO), President of the Asian Pacific Orthodontic Society (2018–2020, the first from China), Fellow of the International College of Dentists (since 2014), and President-Elect of the Oral Plastic and Aesthetic Dentistry Branch of the Chinese Association of Plastics and Aesthetics. He enjoys a distinguished reputation in the field of orthodontics. His appointment not only introduced international academic resources to the department but also accelerated the establishment of the Stomatology Center . After a year of preparation, the center was officially inaugurated on May 28, 2025. It comprises eight subspecialties: Department of Orthodontics; Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; Prosthodontics; Periodontology and Oral Mucosal Diseases; Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry; Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics; Oral Implantology; Temporomandibular Joint and Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, as well as an Stomatology Research Laboratory, forming a triad development model that integrates clinical care, education, and research. With distinctive services including orthodontic treatment for malocclusion, microscopic root canal therapy, minimally invasive esthetic restoration, digital implantology, and minimally invasive tooth extraction, the center provides high-level medical services for residents in northern Beijing.
The establishment of the Stomatology Center represents a significant initiative in the development of medical disciplines at Tsinghua University. Supported by the academic platform of the School of Clinical Medicine, Tsinghua University, the center is dedicated to building a high-level talent training system for Stomatology , with the goal of cultivating outstanding academic physicians and future leaders in medicine. Standing at the new starting point of its tenth anniversary, the Stomatology Center will use the opening of Phase II as an opportunity to further integrate Tsinghua University’s interdisciplinary resources, deepen collaboration with leading institutions at home and abroad, and drive innovation in areas such as digital dentistry and AI-assisted diagnosis and treatment. Rooted in clinical needs and aligned with global academic frontiers, the center is committed to providing patients with more precise and compassionate medical care.
