The Belt and Road Medical Experts Visit Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital to Advance the Health Silk Road

In the first half of this year, three medical delegations from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan – both Belt and Road partner countries – visited Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital. The delegations conducted in-depth exchanges on advanced medical technologies and management models, explored ways to promote regional healthcare development, discussed medical technology enhancement, and identified new pathways for regional health service cooperation.

China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Opens New Chapter in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Exchange

On May 25, a medical delegation from Kazakhstan, comprising experts from the National Scientific Center of Surgery named after A.N. Syzganov, the National Research Center for Oncology and Transplantation, the Kazakh Research Institute of Oncology & Radiology, and Karaganda Multidisciplinary Hospital No. 3, arrived in Beijing for a week-long academic visit to Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, focusing on clinical practice, research, and teaching.


During the China–Kazakhstan cooperation forum, both sides outlined the current status of their hepatobiliary disciplines and engaged in in-depth discussions on organ transplantation, clinical innovation, physician training, and future collaboration. Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital hosted an “Academician Grand Rounds” session, organized surgical observation activities, and guided Kazakh experts through critical care treatment, full-process management, and multidisciplinary collaboration models. The Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Center also held a special “Hepato-Biliary Salon” to showcase the hospital’s Center for Clinical Translational Science and its latest research achievements.

Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Center Hosts Belt and Road International Advanced Joint Surgery Workshop

On April 3, the Department of Joint Surgery at the hospital’s Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Center held a Belt and Road International Advanced Joint Surgery Workshop, attended by orthopedic specialists from the Bukhara Regional Multidiscipline Medical Center and Bukhara State Medical Institute in Uzbekistan. The department’s team shared the latest advances in artificial joint replacement, sports injury treatment, and minimally invasive surgery, while Uzbek experts presented the development status and clinical challenges of orthopedics in their country.

During the surgical demonstration session, the team performed AI-guided complex hip replacement, AI-guided standard knee replacement, and customized 3D-printed knee replacement procedures. Uzbek participants said the workshop offered valuable insights for applying advanced technologies in future clinical practice.

China-Uzbekistan Experts Discuss Nuclear Medicine Development

On March 27, Academician Ilkham Ismailovich Sadikov, Vice President of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan and a leading authority in nuclear medicine, visited Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital. He delivered a hospital-wide lecture titled Development of Nuclear Medicine in Uzbekistan, introducing the comprehensive radiopharmaceutical R&D system developed by the Institute of Nuclear Physics Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, which covers the full chain from diagnostics to treatment. Using clinical case studies and data, he emphasized the concept that “precision nuclear medicine offers new hope for patients with advanced cancer”.

In his concluding remarks, Hospital President Dong Jiahong said, “Professor Sadikov’s presentation has opened a new perspective on medical research in Central Asia. We look forward to taking this exchange as a starting point to transform the concept of the ‘Health Silk Road’ into practice and to jointly address global health challenges.”
